Rebirthing Breathwork = Conscious Breathing = Connected Breathing
History
Rebirthing has ancient origins, linked to yoga practices and Eastern wisdom. This method arrived in the West in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to Leonard Orr, an American researcher interested in holistic disciplines. Leonard Orr had his first experiences of spontaneous breathing while immersed in hot water, during which he experienced strong physical sensations and intense emotional reactions. These experiences often brought back memories related to birth. Orr noticed that after these breathing sessions, the memories no longer surfaced and were replaced by a sense of greater freedom. This breathing technique was “renamed” Rebirthing, meaning both renewal and new discovery of the self, as well as the ability to relive events from one’s own birth.
How does it work?
Rebirthing is a conscious breathing practice centered around a technique known as circular or connected breathing. In this method, you breathe deeply and continuously for about 45–60 minutes, allowing each inhalation to flow seamlessly into the exhalation, without pauses in between. This creates a constant, rhythmic flow of energy and significantly increases the body’s oxygenation. As the breathing deepens and intensifies, you can experience physical sensations such as lightness, warmth, or tingling, as well as emotional responses like spontaneous laughter or crying. These reactions can occur because the practice may bring to the surface repressed memories, emotions, or physical sensations stored in the unconscious mind and the body. Rebirthing is believed to facilitate the release of deep emotional blocks, many of which may be rooted in early childhood or even in the birth experience itself. The process can lead to a profound sense of emotional release, mental clarity, and inner well-being.
What happens during a session?
It takes place in a quiet environment, preferably lying down or sitting comfortably.
A Rebirthing session lasts about two hours and is always accompanied by a qualified Rebirther.
🔹 First part – The interview:
It begins with an in-depth interview, during which the client talks about the difficulties they are experiencing, their thoughts or important issues in their life at that moment.
🔹 Second part – Breathing:
We then move on to the practice of Rebirthing and begin continuous, conscious breathing, which can be compared to active meditation. This type of breathing allows us to access emotions, memories and sensations that are often hidden in the unconscious.
🔹Final integration
After the session, time is devoted to relaxation and reflection on what has emerged. Sometimes the client talks to the Rebirther to better understand the experience.
Each session is different from the next. Each time, you come into contact with what is most useful and suitable for you at that precise moment. This makes each meeting a unique opportunity to discover something new about yourself and can open the door to your own spirituality.
